Shirly was born in Kuching but grew up in Sibu. She received a Diploma in Early Childhood Education from the Methodist Pilley Institute Sibu and a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Studies from Teesside University, United Kingdom. Shirly has been in the field of early childhood education for about 8 years and in addition to teaching has experience of guiding teachers in lesson planning and helping to modify the curriculum. She became a part of Woodlands teaching staff in its inaugural year in 2013 and implemented the International Primary Curriculum for the younger children and developed the PE curriculum for kindergarten. The curriculum that she had helped to develop for Woodlands Kindy emphasises ‘Learning Through Play’. From 2015 to 2016, she worked as the Head of the Kindy Department, hand in hand with Ms. Yong. Currently, she is teaching Science for Year 1N & 1S and ICT for all Year 1 classes. Outside of education, Shirly enjoys sports such as badminton and swimming. Her interests in reading include books about children’s behaviour, parenting, religion, psychology, counselling and self-motivation.
Hello, everyone. I am Ms Yong Ing Ing. I have been teaching early childhood for 20 years. Since 2013, I have been working as part of the kindergarten team here, teaching Chinese, Music, Art and Craft and Physical Education. As a member of the kindergarten, I will continue to bring the same enthusiasm and professionalism that I always have to the education of young children. I am honoured to be one part of the team and hope that parents will continue to place their faith and trust in us.
Jacqueline Binti Mingo comes from Sibu, Sarawak. She began working as a teaching assistant in Early Childhood in 2013 at Woodlands International School. She is passionate about early childhood education as she is eager to know more about children’s development, the ways they learn and the reasons behind their behaviour. So, to further this, she is currently studying part time for a Diploma in Early Childhood Education at the Methodist Pilley Institute.
Weng Weng is from Sibu, Sarawak. She has worked as an Early Childhood Educator since 2011. She is passionate about early childhood education as she is eager to know more about children’s development, the ways they learn and the reasons behind their behaviour, so she decided to become qualified and in 2012 she obtained a Diploma in Early Childhood Education from Methodist Pilley Institute. She enjoys playing and learning together with children because she believes that children learn through play. As they play, they learn to solve problems and to socialise with others while having their motor skills developed. Outside of school life, she enjoys cooking, road trips and casual drawing.
Hello, I am Josephine from Sibu, Sarawak. I received a Diploma in Early Childhood Education from Segi College interlinked with the University of Queensland, Australia and a BA (Hons) in Early Years Education from the University of Greenwich, London. I have taught in kindergarten classrooms for over 6 years in West Malaysia and 2 years in Woodlands International School in addition to being Vice Principal of a private kindergarten in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Outside of education, I enjoy travelling to different countries, socialising and mingling with children.
Ngu Bing Wen is from Sibu, Sarawak. She obtained a Diploma in Early Childhood Education from the Methodist Pilley Institute and has 6 years of experience in teaching preschool children, especially children aged 3. Her philosophy of education is that every child is unique and they should have the opportunity to learn more through play. Outside of education, she enjoy reading novels and travelling. She also enjoys watching films.
Zoey is from Sibu, Sarawak. She received her Diploma in Early Childhood Education from Kolej Dika in Kuala Lumpur. Zoey worked with Cherie Hearts as a part time Teacher Assistant when she was studying and then taught at Kids Academy as a Teacher. She taught Maths, Physical Education and Music. Outside of education, Zoey enjoys participating in Volleyball and Taekwondo to competition level, as well as netball. She enjoys physical activities because they are a challenge. Other than that, Zoey likes to travel during holiday time to experience new things, explore new places and to taste different kinds of food from around the world.
Serena is from Fujian, China. She received a bachelor degree in Urban and Rural Planning & Resource Management from China and a Graduate Diploma of teaching in Early Childhood Education from the University of Waikato in New Zealand. Serena has taught in different early childhood settings for nearly 5 years, including 2 years in New Zealand and 3 years in Malaysia. During her personal time, Serena has developed a strong interest in English language learning. She also enjoys cooking, gardening and DIY.
Vivienne Soon Zhia Ling is from Bintulu, Sarawak. She obtained a Diploma in Early Childhood Education from the Methodist Pilley Institute and graduated from the University of Derby with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Studies in 2014. She joined Woodlands as a teacher in 2015 and has been teaching children in early years and Primary 1. During her spare time, she enjoys spending quality time with family and friends. She also likes to travel to different places and to learn about various cultures.
Warmest greetings to all of you. I am Lesley Low, the literacy teacher in Woodlands Kindergarten department. In 2012, I graduated from University of Malaya with a B.A. (Hons) in Teaching English as Second Language (TESL). Teaching children of such young age is truly an eye-opening experience for me. I cherish every valuable lesson I have learned from the staff and the children themselves. Angela is from Miri, Sarawak. She received a Diploma in Early Childhood Education from the University of Tun Abdul Razak, Kuching. After receiving her Diploma, she first worked with one of the kindergartens in Miri, then moved to Smart Reader Kids, Miri before joining Woodlands in 2015. Outside of education, Angela enjoys travelling and photography.
Helen Tang Sing Hiong is from Sibu, Sarawak. She has 29 years of experience in teaching preschool children and is very happy to be continuing her development at Woodlands International School. From her point of view, preschool education is the most important education for children; It provides vital knowledge but also assists in the development of a passion for learning. A good education and a dedicated educator helps the fortunate children to have wisdom and perseverance in order to face the challenging world in the future.
